In September 2021, we signed a EUR 202 million loan with a pool of banks and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti to support our sustainable development and circular economy projects. The financing is divided into three different credit lines, including a EUR 95 million Green Loan to cover the green investments of the business plan.
The loan, disbursed over four years, will enable the implementation of interventions in line with the objectives of Agenda 2030, which include circular economy projects, environmental sustainability, and efficient use of resources and energy.
These are the types of interventions:
- resolution of EU infringement procedures due to the absence or inadequacy of wastewater collection and purification plants
- modernisation of the water supply network and new installations, with the aim of further improving the quality of tap water, encouraging plastic-free behaviour
- re-use of purified water and reduction of sludge, thanks to innovative bio-drying techniques
The annual monitoring activity called Second Part Opinion was conducted in May 2022, July 2023 and June 2024 by independent and qualified evaluators in order to assess the amount actually used for ‘Green’ investments, with the analysis of the investments made and the monitoring of the indicators.
The analysis established that the portion of the tranche proceeds actually used at the end of 2023 for ‘Green’ investments was saturated and amounted to EUR 95,100,000.
In 2022 and 2024, two new loans in the nature of a Green Loan of EUR 40 million and EUR 14 million, respectively, were signed with the European Investment Bank to supplement the financing requirements of the industrial project.
